Evolving from the artist's internationally acclaimed exhibition "The Roses" (2011) on Park Avenue in New York City, Will Ryman's colossal "LongHouse 6" (2019) is a paradoxical incarnation of this archetypal flower. Rising from the ground to 24 feet tall, the sculpture's exaggerated scale, artificial appearance, and missing petals it has shed around its base, contribute to an improbable representation of this romanticized symbol of natural beauty and perfection. Interrogating our individual and cultural assumptions, Ryman's work reveals the imperfect and temporary nature of all things.
